Peter Martins Inducted Into Dance Hall of Fame

Peter Martins, ballet master in chief of the New York City Ballet, is the newest member of the National Museum of Dance and Hall of Fame.
The 51-year-old native of Denmark was inducted Monday night at the museum in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., where the ballet company stages its annual summer residency at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center.
Mr. Martins, a former principal dancer with the company, joins nearly 40 other members of the Dance Hall of Fame, including George Balanchine, his mentor and a founder of the New York City Ballet.
Mr. Martins joined the Royal Danish Ballet in 1965. He joined the New York City Ballet as a principal dancer in 1970 and became ballet master in chief 20 years later.
Other Hall of Fame members include Fred Astaire, Martha Graham, and Bill “Bojangles” Robinson.
