Taiwanese computer-chip tycoon Robert Tsao will sell a Qing Dynasty glass pot he bought for a record $8.7 million six months ago, and give half the proceeds to China’s earthquake relief work.

Mr. Tsao bought the imperial jar, used to hold brushes for Chinese calligraphy, at a Christie’s International sale in Hong Kong in November. The price was the highest at auction for a Chinese glasswork. The pot, decorated with European-style mother-and-child images, may fetch $11 million on May 27 at Christie’s first Asian sale of the year, the auction house said. The item has a reserve of more than $8 million, Mr. Tsao said in an interview.
