The acclaimed AMC drama “Mad Men” dominated the Television Critics Association awards show Saturday night, Variety reported Sunday. The series won honors for best program, best new program, and best drama. Less than a week after picking up 16 Emmy nominations, “Mad Men” became the first AMC program to win TCA awards. It was also the first basic cable show to be nominated for an Emmy.
NBC’s “30 Rock” delivered a strong performance as well, winning the award for best comedy series; star Tina Fey was honored for individual achievement in a comedy. HBO’s “John Adams” also won two awards, for best movie and for individual achievement in a drama, which went to Paul Giamatti. Other honors at the ceremony, hosted by the Smothers Brothers, went to “The War” by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, for achievement in news and information, and to “Saturday Night Live” producer Lorne Michaels, for career achievement. The Heritage Award for lasting cultural impact went to HBO’s “The Wire.”
