LONDON (AP) – The American dollar was higher against most other major currencies in European trading Wednesday. Gold fell.
The euro traded at $1.3711, down from $1.3830 late Tuesday in New York. The 13-nation currency reached an all-time high of $1.3851 on Tuesday.
Later, in midday trading in New York, the euro fetched $1.3702.
Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Tuesday, included 120.17 Japanese yen, down from 120.41; 1.2139 Swiss francs, up from 1.2041; and 1.0427 Canadian dollars, up from 1.0339.
The British pound traded at 2.0510, down from $2.0639.
In midday New York trading, the dollar bought 120.34 yen and 1.2146 Swiss francs, while the pound was worth $2.0504.
Gold traded in London at $674.75 per troy ounce, down from $683.60 late Tuesday. In Zurich, gold traded at $670.85 per troy ounce, down from $682.45. In Hong Kong, gold fell $4.80 to $677.85.
