Polo Ralph Lauren Corp., the designer of Chaps and Club Monaco clothing, said it has become the official outfitter of the 2008 American Olympic and Paralympic teams.

Polo designed the opening and closing ceremony outfits for the American teams and an assortment of other pieces to be worn in the Olympic Village, the New York-based company said yesterday.

The uniforms for the opening and closing ceremonies will reflect tailored, modern silhouettes in a palette of red, white, and blue, and include sweaters and ties for the men. The opening ceremony outfits will be unveiled on the opening night of the Olympics, August 8. The ensembles for the closing ceremonies will be unveiled at a press conference in Chicago next week.

Polo is replacing Roots Canada Ltd., the Wall Street Journal reported earlier yesterday.
