MERRY-GO-ROUND
Barbara Broughel won a 2004 competition organized by the Battery Conservancy to design a carousel to be built in Battery Park. Her drawings and models for the carousel are on display through this weekend at Frederieke Taylor gallery. Watercolors of sea creatures are on display along with a 1/10-scale model of a glowing, transluscent fish figurine. Her oceanic motifs reference the original New York Aquarium, located in the park before it moved to Coney Island. Through Saturday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Frederieke Taylor gallery, 535 W. 22nd St., between Tenth and Eleventh avenues, sixth floor, 646-230-0992, free.
GLOW SHOW
Paintings by Adrienne Farb and Robert Stuart are on view in “Glow” at Mary Ryan Gallery. Each of Ms. Farb’s large painting consists of a bundle of long, vertical brushstrokes – the canvases resemble shelves packed with colorful books. Mr. Stuart also favors vertical stripes, though his uniform lines are more like neon prison bars. Through Saturday, May 7, Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Mary Ryan Gallery, 24 W. 57th St., between Fifth and Sixth avenues, 212-397-0669, free.
