WORD GAMES Edwina White drew inspiration for her show “Across and Down,” on view at Gigantic ArtSpace, from the January 1, 2005, New York Times crossword puzzle. Using 57 clues from that grid, she combined text, drawings, found objects, and even sound and animation to create a series of whimsical artworks. Born in Australia, Ms.White is now based in Brooklyn. THE PAINT IN SPAIN The Queen Sofia Spanish Institute celebrates the centennial of the Hispanic Society of America with the exhibit “From Goya to Sorolla.” The show features 75 Spanish artworks, mostly paintings, from the 19th and 20th centuries. A highlight is a collection of 11 drawings by Francisco Goya.
