BEFORE THE MARATHON Photographer William Meyers, a photography critic for The New York Sun, was commissioned by the New York Road Runners to photograph the route of the 2004 marathon on the night before the race. He spent sundown Saturday night to 6:32 the next morning photographing all 26.1 miles of the marathon route.The resulting photographs capture New York at night from the staging area in Staten Island, through Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and, finally, the finish line in Central Park, waiting for a winner.
