SPRAY PAINT “Beyond Graffiti: Fresh Visions From Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and New York City” explores Israel’s alternative art scene. It documents the graffiti on cement walls and highway underpasses and even in museums and boardrooms – and the way graffiti’s visual vocabulary informs design, illustration, fine arts, and marketing. Through May 5, New York University, the Edgar M. Bronfman Center for Jewish Life, 7 E. 10th St., between Fifth Avenue and University Place, 212-998-4122, free.
CALIFORNIA TO CHICAGO Paintings by Miyoko Ito (1918-83) are on display at Adam Baumgold Gallery. Born in California to Japanese parents, Ito was imprisoned in an internment camp after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. She continued her education in the camp, later attending Smith College and the Art Institute of Chicago. She remained in Chicago for the rest of her life, exploring Cubism and abstract styles. The paintings on view in this exhibit, her first New York solo show since 1978, are from the 1960s and 1970s. Through Sunday, April 30, Tuesday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Adam Baumgold Gallery, 74 E. 79th St., between Park and Madison avenues, free.
