ESCAPING ADVERSITY The painter Zeng Shanqing survived the Cultural Revolution to develop a career in America, combining traditional Chinese art methods with contemporary Western styles. REFLECTING FACES Richard Maury’s lifelike figurative paintings feature seemingly familiar scenes, catching figures in the midst of conversation or meditation. The American artist has worked from Florence, Italy, for the past 40 years. PLANT LIFE The New York Botanical Garden presents “Buried Treasures: The Nature and Art of Bulbs,” an exhibit of plant-related drawings and paintings from the collection of the LuEsther T. Mertz Library. Featured artists include Georg Dionysius Ehret, Pierre-Joseph Redouté, and Walter Hood Fitch.
