THEATER THANKS
Two benefits tonight celebrate major figures in the New York theater scene. The Dramatists Guild Fund and the Dramatists Guild of America honor Stephen Sondheim at their annual gala dinner. The ceremony includes performances of songs and scenes from Broadway and Off-Broadway musicals. The event’s chairmen include Kate Betts, Debra Black, and Claude Wasserstein (tonight, 7-10:30 p.m., Hudson Theater Millennium Broadway, 145 W. 44th St., between Sixth and Seventh avenues, 212-935-1558, $500 and up). Playwright Wendy Wasserstein, who is on the producing committee of the DGA dinner, is honored at a different theater’s celebration downtown. The Pearl Theatre Company benefit features performances of Ms. Wasserstein’s plays and readings from her essays. David Hyde Pierce, currently starring in “Monty Python’s Spamalot” on Broadway, is among the event’s cochairmen (tonight, 6:30 p.m. cocktails, 7:30 p.m. dinner, 8:30 p.m. performance, the Players, 16 Gramercy Park South at Irving Place, 212-505-3401 ext. 13, $300).
NEW YORK LEGENDS
CBS anchor Dana Tyler emcees a benefit for the Pratt Legends Scholarship. The gala’s honorees include theater director and designer Robert Wilson, artist James Rosenquist, jewelry designer Kenneth Jay Lane, fashion designer Cathy Hardwick, and architect Helmut Jahn.
