GONE FISHING The 58th annual Macy’s Fishing Contest offers children the chance to catch bass, carp, and perch from Prospect Park’s Lullwater, Brooklyn’s only freshwater lake. The opening ceremonies feature an appearance by the Brooklyn Cyclones’ mascot, Sandy the Seagull, who will release fish into the lake. Fishing lessons are offered, and prizes for the most fish caught and the biggest fish caught will be awarded. Rods and bait are provided. Today, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., tomorrow-Sunday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Prospect Park Audubon Center, 95 Prospect Park West at 5th Street, Brooklyn, 718-287-3400, free.
SALSA CALIENTE Parents and children can learn about the origins and styles of Puerto Rican salsa with the band Los Calientes, who play on traditional instruments. Tomorrow, 6:30 p.m., Brooklyn Children’s Museum, 145 Brooklyn Ave., between St. Marks Avenue and Prospect Place, Brooklyn, 718-735-4400, $4 suggested donation.
