SHOE SENSE Children can listen to the story “How To Make a Magic Shoe and Travel the World” and then illustrate some of the scenes at an afternoon event in Brooklyn. They also can check out shoes from all over the world and then work with their family to make their own magic shoe. The event is intended for children ages 6 and older. Today, 3-4 p.m., Brooklyn Children’s Museum, 145 Brooklyn Ave. at St. Mark’s Avenue, 718-735-4400, $4 general, members free.
BEASTLY TUNES Dicapo Opera Company presents “Beauty and the Beast,” a 45-minute, one-act opera based on the children’s classic. Saturday and Sunday, 4 p.m., Dicapo Opera Theatre, 184 E. 76th St., between Third and Lexington avenues, 212-288-9438, $20 general, $10 children 12 and under.
