BRAND NAME Children can explore the meaning and symbolism of cattle brands at “Life in the Saddle.”They can also design their own brand stamps and use them to decorate bandanas to take home. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MR. PRESIDENT Morris-Jumel Mansion, which served as George Washington’s headquarters during the Revolutionary War, celebrates the first presidential birthday with a day of family fun. Activities include colonial hat making, a dress-up station, scavenger hunts, and a behind-the-barriers look at Washington’s study and bedchamber. President Washington himself (aka interpreter Michael Grillo), conducts two tours (noon and 2 p.m.). Wassail punch will be served. Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Morris-Jumel Mansion, 65 Jumel Terrace, between 160th and 162nd streets, 212-923-8008, free. Note: There are no reservations, but early arrival is suggested for Washington tours as space is limited.
SHORTS FOR SHORT ONES A matinee of short films for children includes Disney’s “The Merry Dwarfs” (1929); “Snow White” (1933) and “Dizzy Red Riding Hood” (1931), featuring Betty Boop; Hal Roach’s “Laughing Gravy” (1931), with Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, and “Popeye the Sailor Meets Sinbad the Sailor” (1936). The associate curator at MoMA’s film and media department, Charles Silver, curated the lineup, which is an installment of the Ocularis screening series. Cracker Jacks will be served. CELEBRATING MOZART The Orchestra of St. Luke’s performs at the next Carnegie Hall Family Concert. “Happy Birthday Mozart, You Kid You!” – an all-Mozart program – features Sonata for Piano Four Hands in C major, the overture to “The Marriage of Figaro,” and excerpts from “The Magic Flute.” Soloists include soprano Amy Burton, pianists Peng-Peng Gong and Conrad Tao, and members of the Metropolitan Opera Children’s Chorus. Michael Barrett conducts, and Jamie Bernstein serves as host. Saturday, 2 p.m., Carnegie Hall, Isaac Stern Auditorium, 881 Seventh Ave. at 57th Street, 212-247-7800, $8.
