OUT OF AFRICA BAMcinématek presents screenings from the Best of the African Film Festival. Next up is “Kounandi” (2003), a film from Burkina Faso about a deaf woman in love with a married man. It’s screened with two short films, the Rwandan “About Braids” (2003), which follows a woman who braids hair in her small Paris apartment, and “For the Night” (2004), an Ivory Coast film about a funeral and a wedding. Tonight, 6:50 p.m. and 9:15 p.m., BAM Rose Cinemas, 30 Lafayette Ave., between Ashland Place and St. Felix Street, Brooklyn, 718-636-4100, $10 general, $7 seniors, students, and children under 12, $6 members.


CHICAGO TRIO The only prints of the “Dr. Chicago” trilogy, made by the Michigan art collective the Once Group, will be screened once more before being preserved. In the first installment, the central conceit is established: Composer Alvin Lucier stars as a sex-change surgeon on the lam (tonight, 8 p.m.). At the screening of the second film, “Ride Dr. Chicago Ride” (1970), Mr. Lucier discusses his only experience as a lead film actor (Friday, 8 p.m.). Composer Robert Ashley joins in a discussion at the screening of the third film, “Cry Dr. Chicago” (1971), in which Mr. Lucier recites “The Raven” and images of a dark political future flash on screen (Saturday, 8 p.m.).
