‘DRY’ AND ‘HOT’ A Brooklyn screening series explores documentary filmmaker Les Blank’s work focusing on the music of Louisiana, Texas, and North Carolina. First up is “Dry Wood” (1973), an exploration of French-speaking Black Creole culture in Louisiana’s Cajun country. It is screened with “Hot Pepper” (1973), which looks at the music of Clifton Chenier and his urban zydeco music.The two films were conceived as a iptych. GARBO TALKS In celebration of the 100th anniversary of Greta Garbo’s birth, Scandinavia House presents the film series Forever Garbo. Up next are dual screenings of the American and German productions of “Anna Christie” (1930), based on the Eugene O’Neill play about a Swedish-American prostitute haunted by her past. Clarence Brown directed the American version. Jacques Feyder then directed a German-language version for distribution abroad, which Garbo preferred. The film was the actress’s first “talkie,” promoted with the simple tagline “Garbo Talks.” Wednesday, 5:30 p.m. American version, 8 p.m. German version, Saturday, 3 p.m. American version, 5:30 p.m. German version, Scandinavia House, 58 Park Ave., between 37th and 38th streets, 212-879-9779, $8 general, $6 members.
