SPRING BATTLE Gerard Depardieu stars in Claude Berri’s “Jean de Florette” (1986), in which two farmers squabble over which of them owns a nearby natural spring. It is screened as part of the French Institute/Alliance Francaise’s tribute to Mr. Depardieu. INDEPENDENT WOMAN BAMcinematek honors the actress Gena Rowlands with a screening series, An Independent Spirit. This week includes a screening of “Unhook the Stars” (1996), in which Ms. Rowlands’s son, Nick Cassavetes, directed her in playing a woman unprepared for aging (Thursday, 7:30 p.m.). WHAT’S THAT TITLE? Jim Riffel’s 1991 film “Night of the Day of the Dawn of the Son of the Bride of the Return of the Revenge of the Terror of the Attack of the Evil, Mutant, Hellbound, Flesh-Eating, Crawling, Zombified Living Dead, Part 2” is screened in the East Village. Mr. Riffel wiped out the soundtrack of George Romero’s well-known horror film “Night of the Living Dead,” redubbed it as a comedy, and then spliced in some of his own short films and odd film clips.
