LOVE IS COLD An 11-week series of screenings of films by the prolific German filmmaker Rainer Werner Fassbinder continues with “Love Is Colder Than Death” (1969), a story that follows a pimp, his girlfriend, and a gangster. It is screened with the short film “The Little Chaos” (1966). Friday and Sunday, noon, IFC Center, 323 Sixth Ave. at West 3rd Street, 212 924-7771, $10.75 general, $7 seniors.


WASHED UP Robert Zemeckis’s “Cast Away” (2000), starring Tom Hanks as a plane crash survivor who lives alone on a deserted South Pacific island for four years, is screened as part of the Brooklyn Public Library series Friday Night at the Movies. Friday, 6 p.m., Brooklyn Public Library, Central Library, Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn, 718-230-2100, free.


LOVING THE BOMB Stanley Kubrick’s classic Cold War satire “Dr. Strangelove: Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb” (1964), starring Peter Sellers several times over, is screened in the East Village. Friday, 7 p.m., Two Boots Pioneer Theater, 155 E. 3rd St. at Avenue A, 212-591-0434, $9 general, $6.50 members.


FUTURE TENSE Wong Kar-Wai’s futuristic romance “2046” (2004) is screened. It stars Tony Leung as a writer with many women in his orbit. Friday, 7:30 p.m., Sunday, 6:30 p.m., Museum of the Moving Image, 35th Avenue at 36th Street, Astoria, Queens, 718-784-0077, $10 general, $7.50 seniors and students, free for members.


ZERO AND FRIENDS The new film “As Smart as They Are: The Author Project” documents the collaboration between McSweeney’s Brooklyn houseband One Ring Zero and an ensemble of authors including Paul Auster, Dave Eggers, Jonathan Lethem, Rick Moody, Jonathan Ames, and Myla Goldberg. A screening next week is preceded by a screening of “Ever Vigilant, Ever True,” a short film starring comedian Patton Oswalt. Thursday, January 12, 7 p.m., 826NYC, 372 Fifth Ave., between 5th and 6th streets, Park Slope, Brooklyn, 718-499-9884, $10.
