GIRLS ON FILM “Sensations in Sound: A Suite of ‘Music Films'” is a program of early cinematic works preserved by the Women’s Film Preservation Fund and presented by the Film Society of Lincoln Center. Selected films include Mary Ellen Bute’s “Tarantella” (1940) and “Imagination” (1948), both experiments with abstract animation of musical compositions. Maya Deren’s “Meditation on Violence” (1948) is an avant-garde martial arts piece set to a soundtrack of Haitian drumming. An Academy Award-winning film editor, Thelma Schoonmaker, is host of the event. ECOTOPIA ON FILM The International Center of Photography and the IFC Center’s “Ecotopia” series ends with screenings of William Johnson’s “Finished” (1997), a documentary about a Canadian pornography actor who died in the San Fernando Valley, and Jenni Olsen’s “The Joy of Life” (2005), a two-part documentary about the Golden Gate Bridge and the life of a San Francisco lesbian.
