ILLUMINATED EVE Van Cortlandt House comes alive in “Van Cortlandt by Candlelight: A Grand Illumination.” Costumed interpreters, winter holiday and Colonial-style decorations, and flaming cressets fill the house during the holiday event. The tour concludes with hot chocolate, cider, gingerbread cookies, and other festive snacks. Saturday and Sunday, every half-hour between 4-7 p.m., Van Cortlandt House Museum, Van Cortlandt Park, Broadway at West 246th Street, Bronx, 718-543-3344, $10 general, $8 seniors and students, $5 children ages 5-12.
ISLAND BY CANDLELIGHT The Staten Island Historical Society presents a candlelight tour of the 25-acre Historic Richmond Town. Visitors can experience 300 years of holiday traditions by observing costumed interpreters as they stroll. Tickets include a “Wassail Bowl” reception at the Third County Courthouse. Saturday, tours leave from 5-8:30 p.m., Historic Richmond Town, 441 Clarke Ave., Staten Island, 718-351- 1611, $27.50 general, $22 members, reservations requested.
