JAZZ IN THE AFTERNOON Pianist Bill Charlap and vocalist Sandy Stewart perform as part of the Midtown Jazz at Midday series. Today, 1 p.m., St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 619 Lexington Ave. at 54th Street, 212-935-2200, $5 suggested donation.


COUPLE OF CANS A pianist for the Bang on a Can All-Stars, Lisa Moore, joins percussionist David Cossin, cellist Wendy Sutter, guitarist Mark Stewart, and singer Theo Bleckmann in a performance downtown. Bang on a Can’s David Lang will also perform work from “Heroin,” his new setting of the Velvet Underground song “Heroin” for voice and cello. STEPPE TO IT Three musicians from the South Siberian grasslands – Sabjilar, Choduraa Tumat, and Sarymai – perform throat singing, nomad songs, shamanic ritual, and mimicry of birds and animals as part of “Songs of the Steppes.” Friday, 7-9 p.m., Rubin Museum of Art, 150 W. 17th St., between Sixth and Seventh avenues, 212-620-5000 ext. 344, $20.


SPANISH SONGS The New York Festival of Song presents “Teatros Espanoles,” a celebration of Zarzuela, Spanish, and Latin American musical theater. Musicians Steven Blier and Dina Kuznetsova, among others, perform works by Pablo Luna, Ernesto Lecuona, and Jacinto Guerrero. Tuesday and Wednesday, November 16, 8 p.m., Merkin Hall, Kaufman Center, 129 W. 67th St., between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue, 212-501-3330, $45 general, $35 seniors, $22.50 students one half-hour before show time.
