MONTH OF POEMS The Academy of American Poets kicks off its April Poetry Month calendar a few days early with a reading by Slovenian poet Tomaz Salamun, whose collection “The Book for My Brother” (Harcourt) will be published next month. He is joined by poets Carol Frost and David Barber. Tonight, 7 p.m., Teachers & Writers Collaborative, 5 Union Square West, between 14th and 15th streets, seventh floor, free.
TWO WRITERS Poets Wayne Koestenbaum and Maggie Nelson read from their work. Mr. Koestenbaum’s latest collection is “Best-Selling Jewish Porn Films.” He is an English professor at the CUNY Graduate Center. Ms. Nelson’s most recent book, “Jane: A Murder,” is a “mixed-genre” book about the life and 1960 murder of her aunt. She is also the author of several volumes of poetry.
