NEWSY CAUSE The “Strolling Supper with Blues and News” supports the non-profit organization Joan’s Legacy Lung Cancer Foundation, which raises funds for lung cancer research. Television news anchors Tom Brokaw and Brian Williams are chairmen of the event. Featured guests include S. Epatha Merkerson, of “Law and Order.” Tonight, 6:30 p.m., Jazz at Lincoln Center, Frederick P. Rose Hall, the Allen Room, 33 W. 60th St. at Broadway, 212-627-5500, $250.

WOOF WOOF The “Top Dog” dinner and dance raises funds for the Animal Medical Center, a nonprofit facility care center for animals that is open continuously. Special guests include K9 Bravo and K9 Taz of the New York Police Department Canine Unit, accompanied by their partners, Police Officers Joseph Caputo and Scott Ryan. Tonight, 7 p.m., the Rainbow Room, 30 Rockefeller Plaza, between 49th and 50th streets, 212-868-4043, $600.
