YELLOW IS YESTERDAY A public workshop explores potential redesigns and improvements to New York City taxis. Starting with the premise that “taxis have proved resistant to real innovation,” the event features presentations of sketches, proposed regulatory reforms, and a question-and-answer period. Panelists include the dean of Parsons School of Design, architecture critic Paul Goldberger; the president of Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, Paul Herzan, and the first deputy commissioner of the NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission, Andrew Salkin. The host of public radio’s “Studio 360,” Kurt Andersen, moderates the event, which is presented by Parsons School of Design and the New School University. MIDDLE EAST VOICES A group of 12 national Jewish women’s organizations, One Voice, presents a two-part examination of Middle East issues. First up in the Eve Dialogues is a screening of “Behind Enemy Lines” (2004), an Israeli film that follows an Israeli policeman who befriends a Palestinian journalist. A panel discussion follows, with the editor and publisher of the Jewish Week of New York, Gary Rosenblatt; James Fleming of the Land of the Bible Museum; an Albany nun and lawyer, Sister Ruth Lautt, and the director of the Middle East Project at Queens College of the City University, Mark Rosenblum. Next week’s program goes “Behind the Headlines” to discuss Israeli and American perspectives a variety of Middle East issues (Thursday, June 23).
