IN THE FIRST PERSON The editor of the upcoming anthology “The Beholder’s Eye” (Grove Press), Walt Harrington, joins contributors Scott Anderson and Mike Sager to discuss the collection of contemporary personal journalism. MISSISSIPPI MEMORIES Civil rights lawyer Rita Bender discusses the civil rights movement in Mississippi, past and present. She is the widow of Michael Schwerner, who, along with two other activists, was murdered in 1964 because of their work with black Mississippians on voter registration. The lecture is the first in the Renee Becker Swartz ’55 lecture series, named for a Barnard alumnus. GENIUS SQUARED The New York Academy of Sciences hosts a reading and discussion of “Einstein’s Gift,” Vern Thiessen’s play exploring the legacies of two scientists: Einstein, a pacifist, and Fritz Haber, known as the father of modern chemical warfare. Panelists include director Ron Russell; filmmaker Daniel Ragussis; the co-director of the Science & Global Security Program, Frank Von Hippel, and a physicist at Brookhaven Na tional Laboratory, Peter Steinberg.
