A ROOM OF THEIR OWN Author and journalist Peter Hyman moderates a discussion titled “Rising Above the Din: Writing Amid a Noisy Culture.” Panelists Jonathan Ames, John Hodgman, and Sam Lipsyte discuss their work as writers in “an age when it’s almost impossible to be heard” amid the noise of movies, television, and the Internet. The talk is part of Makor’s New York States of Mind series. SCIENCE & FAITH The host of American Public Media’s “Speaking of Faith,” Krista Tippett, moderates a discussion on how scientists view their religious faith. The panelists are a biology professor at Brown University, Kenneth Miller; the director of Columbia University’s Center for the Study of Science and Religion, Robert Pollack; an emeritus professor of physics and humanities at Rochester Institute of Technology, Varadaraja Raman, and a professor of Christian philosophy at Fuller Theological Seminary, Nancey Murphy.
