MEDICAL CROSSROADS In a lecture on “The Making of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome,” author and professor Janet Golden discusses the syndrome as the intersection of medicine, technology, government, and public health. STANTON’S CRUSADE Essayist and memoirist Vivian Gornick discusses the life and activism of Elizabeth Cady Stanton, who worked for decades in pursuit of women’s suffrage. Ms. Gornick is the author of “The Solitude of Self: Reflections on Elizabeth Cady Stanton” (Farrar, Straus & Giroux). FACTORY FIRE Journalist David von Drehle reads from “Triangle: The Fire That Changed America” (Atlantic Monthly Press) on the 95th anniversary of the deadly Greenwich Village fire that in 1911 killed 146 factory workers, most of them young immigrant Jewish and Italian women. It was New York City’s worst disaster before the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. BROOKLYN UNDERGROUND Historian Jeff Richman discusses the notable “residents” of Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn. They include Leonard Bernstein, Charles Ebbets, Samuel F.B. Morse, Peter Cooper, Horace Greeley, Louis Comfort Tiffany, Henry Ward Beecher, and “Boss” Tweed. Mr. Richman is the author of “Brooklyn’s Green-Wood Cemetery: New York’s Buried Treasure” (Green-Wood Cemetery).
