NEW TEX-MEX People in Lefferts Manor, Brooklyn, no longer need to cross Prospect Park to get Tex-Mex food and high-end whiskey. Enduro (51 Lincoln Road between Flatbush and Ocean avenues, 718-282-7097) serves both. The turkey chili burrito is $9.50. A shot of Macallan 18 is $25. So is a pitcher of Margaritas.
DOWN TIME Cafe Gray (Time Warner Center, third floor, 212-823-6221) will be closed January 1-9 for some routine cosmetic work.
OPENING 15 East (15 E. 15th St., between Fifth Avenue and Union Square West, 212-647-0015) is up, running, and serving sushi prepared by Masato Shimizu, formerly of Jewel Bako. A full menu of Japanese-inspired cooked food will be available soon.
HAPPY HAPPY Ama (48 MacDougal St., between Houston and Prince streets, 212-358-1707) has launched an Italian happy hour on weekdays that it is calling L’ora dell’Aperitivo. Between 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.,cocktails are still $10, but while you drink them you can enjoy free cheeses, crostini, olives, and more.
SNACKS AHOY Lonesome Dove (29 W. 21st St., between Fifth and Sixth avenues, 212-414-3139) has started a happy hour, too. During weekdays between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., drinks come with a free snack of the day. On Monday, it is Manchego and pear empanadas. Tuesday’s snack is goatcheese-stuffed grape leaves. On Wednesday a drink gets you garlic sweet fries. Thursday is buffalo meatball day, and Friday you can score lamb skewers with garlic, mint, and lime sauce.
CLASS TIME If you are feeling industrious this weekend, you might stop by the Institute of Culinary Education (50 W. 23rd St., between Fifth and Sixth avenues, 212-847-0700), which is offering take-and-make New Year’s Eve hors d’oeuvres classes. At 10 a.m. or 6 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. on Sunday, attendees will spend four hours making quesadillas, pancetta tartes, gougeres, deviled eggs, cheese straws, roast beef with horseradish cream, shrimp and dates with orange dipping sauce, and crab cakes. The fee for the class is $120.
FREE BUBBLY If you are feeling more celebratory than industrious, Union Square Wine & Spirits (140 Fourth Ave. at 13th Street, 212-675-8100) might be more your speed. It is holding a free champagne tasting Saturday. More than 20 varieties are on offer betweem 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.
