GOODBYE, WALLSE Aldo Sohm, the sommelier of KG Restaurants (Wallsé, Café Sabarsky, and Blaue Gans), is leaving to head up the four-person wine department at Le Bernardin (155 W. 51st St., between Sixth and Seventh avenues, 212-554-1515). He starts on May 1.
RIBBIT FR. OG (71 Spring St., between Broadway and Crosby Street, 212-966-5050) opened to the public yesterday, just about a month behind schedule. The name stands for “France Origin” and chef Didier Virot is offering global food that was influenced by the French. The menu includes Lebanese salads, Vietnamese spring rolls, and Moroccan b’steeya.
DESSERT ETC. P*ong (150 W. 10th, between Greenwich Ave. and Waverly Pl., 212-929-0898), pastry chef Pichet Ong’s café, is open after about a year of planning. (He had hoped to open it last September.) Desserts, including house made ice cream, are available, but so are savory items such as cheese, charcuterie, and other light fare.
DINNER FOR A CAUSE Dozens of New York restaurants are taking part in a fundraiser this Sunday to benefit the people of Darfur.
Participants in Dining for Darfur are giving 5% of their sales on April 29 to the International Rescue Committee, which is working in Darfur and nearby refugee camps to feed those in need. For a list of participating restaurants, visit diningfordarfur.org.
FOR THE PARK A Voce (41 Madison Ave. at 26th Street, 212-545-8555) is raising money for the Madison Square Park Conservancy tomorrow. Between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., guests can enjoy Henriot Champagne and sample antipasti. Tickets start at $50. A $250 ticket will also get you lunch for two at the restaurant. Contribute $1,000 and you get dinner for four, plus “preferential seating in the future,” according to a release from the restaurant.
FAMILY RECIPE Colors (417 Lafayette St. between 4th St. and Astor Pl., 212-777-8443) is looking for a recipe from someone’s mother to add to its Mother’s Day menu. Mothers of families that submit entries through the restaurant’s Web site, colors-nyc.com, will eat for free on the holiday, May 13. The entire winning family will eat for free.
The deadline for submissions is May 6.
POWER OF 10 Mai House (186 Franklin St., between Greenwich and Hudson streets, 212-431-0606) has launched a special late-night menu. The “10 after 10” menu features dishes priced at $10 or less, served from 10 p.m. until the kitchen closes, generally around midnight. Drew Nieporent, head of the Myriad Restaurant Group, which owns Mai House, said the restaurant would stay open later if enough customers wanted it to.
Dishes include spicy beef and pomelo salad, barbecue quail on sticky rice, and Berkshire pork belly with pickled red cabbage and coconut juice.
