CRAZY FOR CRAYFISH


Every August, crayfish parties are held throughout the country of Sweden to celebrate the return of crayfish season. This week, Aquavit restaurant will feature a variety of crayfish preparations in honor of this tradition. Chef Marcus Samuelsson has created a crayfish buffet in the upstairs cafe that includes peel-and-eat crayfish, crayfish sushi, crayfish tacos, crayfish and foie-gras skewers with pickled grapes, crayfish gazpacho, and more. For lunch, the buffet will be priced at $25; for dinner, $35. In addition, a special crayfish week tasting menu is available in the dining room for $90.

CURRENT COCKTAILS


In honor of the Republican convention, the Plaza Hotel has created a new cocktail, the “G.O.P.” The sweet concoction, which will be served at the historic Oak Bar, is made with Galliano, orange juice, and Patron and is served on the rocks.

Meanwhile, the Rink Bar at Rockefeller Center is offering five tennis inspired cocktails to celebrate the upcoming U.S. Open. The cocktails, each priced at $8, include the U.S. Open Peach Cosmopolitan, made with vodka, Long Island white peaches, and lime juice, and Grand Slam Sangria, made with white zinfandel, passion-fruit and orange juices, and a splash of club soda and lime. Available through September 12, these cocktails will also be served at other restaurants owned by parent company Restaurant Associates, including Brasserie, Brasserie 8 1/2, Cafe Centro, Naples 45, Nick + Stef’s Steakhouse & Bar, and Tropica.

WINE ON MOTT STREET


Many are unsure how to pair Chinese food with wine. Food writer David Rosengarten will address this question at a banquet and wine tasting on Wednesday, September 8, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Tai Hong Lau Restaurant in Chinatown (70 Mott St., 212-219-1431). The dinner will consist of nine courses, which will be served with six wines, including a French Sancerre, Portuguese Vinho Verde, and Greek Moschofilero. The event is co-sponsored by Asian Women in Business and the New York City Chapter of Women for WineSense. The evening is priced at $45; space is limited.
