BEIJING (AP) – The People Republic of China’s military spending will jump 17.8 percent this year, the spokesman for the National People’s Congress said Sunday.
Jiang Enzhu told a news conference on the eve of the annual meeting of China’s legislature that military spending would hit nearly $45 billion in 2007, an increase of $6.8 billion over last year.
Mr. Jiang said most of the money would be spent on boosting wages and living allowances for the armed forces and upgrading armaments. He did not give any other details.
