TEL AVIV, Israel — Hamas forces in the Gaza Strip are detaining a leader of the Army of Islam group, which is holding kidnapped BBC reporter Alan Johnston.

Hamas, which seized control of Gaza last month, is holding Abu Katab al-Maqdissi, who had acted as a spokesman for the Army of Islam, both organizations said yesterday. The Army of Islam said it abducted 10 Hamas members in retaliation.
