RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) – Iran will free a detained female British sailor on Wednesday or Thursday, Iran’s foreign minister said.

The woman, identified as sailor Faye Turney, was seized by Iran along with 14 other British sailors or marines on Friday.

“Today or tomorrow, the lady will be released,” Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on the sidelines of an Arab summit that he was attending in the Saudi capital.

On Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini said Turney, 26, had been given her privacy.

Britain and America have said the sailors and marines were intercepted after they completed a search of a civilian vessel in the Iraqi part of the Shatt al-Arab waterway, where the border between Iran and Iraq has been disputed for centuries.
