MOSCOW (AP) – A Kremlin spokesman on Friday dismissed a top lawmaker’s proposal to change the constitution to allow President Vladimir Putin to stay in power beyond 2008, saying Mr. Putin opposes such changes.
“We precede from the president’s position that it is pointless to change the Constitution to extend the presidential term or the number of terms. This stance of the president remains unchanged,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told The Associated Press.
