GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip — Egyptian security forces sealed breaches in the barrier on the border with the Gaza Strip, more than a week after Hamas militants blew open at least 15 holes and let hundreds of thousands of Gazans into Egypt. “The border is closed,” a local news agency, Ramatan, said in a text message to journalists in Gaza, citing unidentified witnesses. Many Gazans had crossed the border to shop for basic goods in short supply because of an Israeli blockade.
[Also yesterday, the Associated Press reported that Israeli forces opened fire across the Lebanese border, killing one person and wounding another, Lebanese security officials said.
The circumstances of the shooting along the border were not clear. The area is suspected to be a trail for smugglers.]
