The phrase “airport lighting” usually conjures up images of grim fluorescents. Next week, however, travelers through JFK’s Terminal 4 may be surprised to find themselves walking beneath an unusual crystal chandelier.

On Wednesday, the terminal will unveil “Voyage,” a double-loop, one-ton sculpture by San Francisco-based designer Yves Behar .The chandelier, commissioned by Bombay Sapphire and Swarovski, features 60,000 Swarovski crystals and 2,000 LED lights, which respond to the movements of passengers underneath.

The sculpture was first shown at Swarovski’s Crystal Palace Collection during Milan’s Salone Internazionale del Mobile in April and then at New York’s International Contemporary Furniture Fair in May. At JFK, it will hang behind another prized work of art in Terminal 4, Alexander Calder’s mobile, “Flight.” Intrigued travelers can learn more about Mr. Behar’s work at www.fuseproject.com, the Web site of his design company.
