When our neighbor Joe Rocco saw a photograph of Chevrolet’s Camaro concept car, he said that he’d buy one if the company actually decided to build it.
One year later, the New York Auto Show will feature the convertible version of that Camaro concept. Many devotees of the Camaro, like Mr. Rocco, will be lining up to buy this beauty: Chevy recently announced it will put the muscle car into production for the 2009 model year.
Part of the appeal of concept cars is the “if only” factor. They’re meant to be a big tease. In the case of General Motors, though, the vice chairman, Robert Lutz, has begun putting many of those tantalizing models onto the production line. The Pontiac Solstice is another good example.
This year’s show will also feature the Ford Interceptor. If only!
