WASHINGTON — A former deputy secretary of state, Richard Armitage, said yesterday he was foolish to have disclosed Valerie Plame’s CIA identity.

Mr. Armitage’s acknowledgment came in response to comments by Ms. Plame, who said the former Bush administration official had no right to talk to a reporter about where she worked.

A year ago, Mr. Armitage publicly apologized to Ms. Plame and her husband.

Messrs. Armitage and a former White House deputy chief of staff, Karl Rove, were the sources for a 2003 newspaper column by a commentator, Robert Novak, which disclosed Ms. Plame’s CIA employment.
