* In a day of barb-trading by both candidates, President Bush said at Onalaska, Wis., yesterday that his opponent favors “the position of weakness and inaction” contrary to “the great tradition of the Democratic Party.” Mr. Bush made three stops in Wisconsin, pitching his campaign to wavering Democrats. He also visited Iowa and is planning to close the race with a 60-second commercial portraying himself as a trustworthy, steady leader.
* “What else are you keeping from the American people?” was Senator Kerry’s question for Mr. Bush. At Green Bay, Wis., Mr. Kerry escalated his criticism of Mr. Bush over explosives missing in Iraq; the senator also accused the president of keeping the cost of the Iraq war under wraps until after Election Day. At Las Vegas, Mr. Kerry appealed to undecided voters in English and Spanish.
