The bag of freebie merchandise given to actor George Clooney on Oscar night has raised $45,000 for charity at an online auction, the BBC reported.
The bags, which are given to all those who announce the Oscar nominees at the awards ceremony in the hope that the association of the product with a celebrity will result in increased sales, this year contained a pocket computer, a designer kimono and a pearl necklace, among other items.
Mr Clooney won the best supporting actor award for “Syriana” and “Good Night and Good Luck,” which he directed, was named best picture.
His publicist told the BBC it was his custom to donate free marketing produce to charities and that the United Way of America was given the Oscar bag to do with as it liked. The money raised will go to hurricane relief. The buyer has not been identified.
