NEW YORK – The Archdiocese of New York, one of the oldest in the country, is planning a series of events later this year to celebrate its upcoming bicentennial.
A year of celebration will start in April and conclude in April 2008, the 200th anniversary of the archdiocese’s founding, spokesman Joseph Zwilling said Sunday.
Cardinal Edward Egan discussed the celebration year with parishioners earlier in the day.
Mr. Zwilling said the celebrations would take place on the local church level as well as diocese-wide, and would include academic convocations, concerts, and exhibits.
The Archdioceses of Boston, Philadelphia and Louisville, Ky., also mark their bicentennials in April 2008.
