Police are asking for the public’s assistance in apprehending a man who raped a 68-year-old Brooklyn woman and burglarized her apartment, police said yesterday.

According to police, the suspect somehow managed to gain entrance into the victim’s apartment building in Fort Greene at about 11:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The suspect then forced his way into the apartment, drew a knife, raped the victim, and stole $80 in cash from the victim’s purse and closet. He then fled the scene on foot.

The suspect is described as a black male between the ages of 35 and 40, between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall, weighing about 225 pounds, with a thin mustache. Anyone with information is asked to call 800-577-TIPS. There is up to a $2,000 reward, and all calls will be kept confidential, police said.

CRIMINAL NABBED IN ROBBERY

Officers arrested a repeat offender with dozens of prior arrests after he robbed a Brooklyn bank yesterday, police said. According to police, James Milea, 52, of Beacon, N.Y., entered the Washington Mutual Bank branch at 7427 Fifth Ave. and handed the teller a note demanding money. He then fled on foot with $12,000 in cash stuffed into a bag. The bank manager followed him out, and pursued him for two blocks north on Bay Ridge Parkway. When police arrived, responding to a 911 call, the bank manager alerted police to the suspect’s whereabouts. They caught up to him in a patrol car and made the arrest. Milea has 30 prior arrests, police said, and has spent time in prison, including a four-year sentence for the attempted murder of a police officer. Charges are pending.

Donte Pomar, 19, of 147th Street, was pronounced dead at the scene after crashing at 150th Street between 78th Road and 78th Avenue at 3:04 a.m. yesterday, according to police.

A police cruiser followed Mr. Ponte, who was not wearing a helmet, for about six blocks and was three-quarters of a block behind him when he crashed, according to police. Police said the incident is not considered a pursuit.
