As his opponents scramble to hold fund-raising events and scrape together donations, Mayor Bloomberg transferred nearly $11 million into his campaign treasury in the past two months and doled out millions of dollars, for everything from voter lists to coffee and baguettes.
According to campaign-finance filings made public last night, since March 11 the mayor has spent $3.2 million on voter-development lists compiled by Penn, Schoen & Berland Associates.
“I’m going to reach out to everyone in this city, and if it takes spending the money that I’ve made to get that message out … I’m going to do that,” Mr. Bloomberg said yesterday in Brooklyn.
“I can’t think of a better thing to do with my money,” he said.
Though Mr. Bloomberg has four Democratic and two GOP challengers, only two candidates’ latest filings were made public last night.
Rep. Anthony Weiner, Democrat of Queens, added $501,000 to his bank account, bringing his treasury up to $2.1 million. An initial review of his contributions reveals several donations in the $2,000 range from congressional campaign committees around the country.
And a former GOP minority leader of the City Council, Thomas Ognibene, had contributions totaling $49,000.
