SYRACUSE — The former treasurer of the Syracuse Bowling Association pleaded guilty yesterday to stealing more than $60,000 from the organization.
Linda Stachnik, 51, pleaded guilty to second-degree grand larceny, admitting she took $60,339 from the organization over a six-year period. Onondaga County Judge William Walsh promised a sentence of probation in order to allow her to make full restitution. Assistant District Attorney Robert DeMarco blamed the thefts, which occurred from 2000–2006, on greed and asked for some jail time to punish Stachnik for abusing the trust placed in her.
Stachnik also was accused of falsifying bank records to cover up the thefts from the association, which has approximately 4,700 members and in 2006 served 137 sanctioned leagues.
