A man who carjacked two vehicles at gunpoint, crashed both of them and threatened emergency crews trying to help him was fatally shot by police Saturday after he fired his weapon at them, authorities said. Another man was wounded in the rampage.
The 23-year-old man, who was not identified, stole a Dodge Charger at gunpoint in Brooklyn, police said. He then apparently drove to the home of his ex-girlfriend and fired shots into her apartment door.
He then drove away, crashed the vehicle into an unoccupied storefront and tried to carjack a nearby Nissan Maxima. When the driver took off the gunman fired a shot that ended up hitting the arm of a 46-year-old man in a nearby Jeep Cherokee, police said.
After fleeing on foot, the suspect forced the driver of a Lincoln Town Car out at gunpoint, then drove away only to crash a second time into a pole near a school in Brooklyn, police said.
Emergency medical technicians in the area on another call attempted to help the suspect, but he pointed a weapon at them. Police arrived on the scene and the suspect fired at the officers, who then shot the suspect.
The man was transported to Kings County Hospital Center, where he later died. The driver of the Cherokee was also taken to Kings County, where he was listed in stable condition.
