The president of the Bronx, Adolfo Carrion, is putting together a team of senior advisers for his campaign, which now includes a former city comptroller and the chairwoman of the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty.
A former comptroller, Elizabeth Holtzman, and Merryl Tisch, who also is vice chancellor of the New York State Board of Regents, will be co-chairs of Mr. Carrion’s comptroller campaign, the campaign announced yesterday. They will join a former state comptroller, Carl McCall, and a business executive, Leo Hindery, who agreed to serve as co-chairs of the campaign back in February.
The comptroller field is getting crowded, with Mr. Carrion facing off against several council members, including David Yassky, David Weprin, and Melinda Katz, and an assemblyman of Brooklyn, James Brennan. Council members Simcha Felder and John Liu also are considered potential candidates.
Mr. Carrion had been considered a likely mayoral candidate, but he put that notion to rest in December, announcing that he would seek the comptroller’s seat instead.
He has raised about $1.7 million, according to records from the city’s Campaign Finance Board, which has tracked donations through January 15.
Ms. Katz has raised about $1.9 million, Mr. Weprin has pulled in close to $1.6 million, and Mr. Yassky had collected more than $900,000 in donations through January 15.
