A stabbing in Harlem on Monday left one dead, and a 21-year-old man was shot and killed yesterday in Staten Island, police said.
Grant Fleming, of 131 Jersey St., was shot in the torso in a lobby of the Richmond Terrace Houses apartment complex on 81 Jersey St. just after 2 a.m., officials said.
Police responded to emergency calls, but Fleming was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Richmond University Medical Center. Fleming was married with a young son. A MySpace tribute from his son read, “even though you’re gone on my birthday, I will always keep you close to my heart. Be my angel, guide me not to do wrong, daddy.”
Police said Fleming had a lengthy criminal record, including criminal contempt, robbery, and illegal possession of guns. No arrests have yet been made.
On Monday at about 11 p.m., Pedro Martinez, 17, was fatally stabbed in the torso in Harlem, officials said. Responding to a call, police found Martinez on the corner of West 162nd Street and Broadway, and he was pronounced dead on arrival at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. No arrests have yet been made in Martinez’s stabbing, police said.
