Council Member Leroy Comrie says he will continue his efforts to draw attention to clothing that he says glorifies crime, following a hearing on the issue that several companies and organizations invited to testify failed to attend.

Major League Baseball and its longtime cap producer, New Era, did not send representatives to testify. MLB said in a letter that its staff members were too busy. Mr. Comrie says that New Era, which withdrew a line of baseball hats over the summer after critics said they resembled gang colors, as well as other companies, still market similar products.

“Our primary goal was to notify parents and make consumers aware that their children may be purchasing products over the holidays that may in fact be dangerous for their children to wear,” Mr. Comrie said yesterday. “I think we’ve succeeded in that regard.”
