A computer manufacturer, Dell, is facing a lawsuit from Attorney General Cuomo, who says the company misled consumers through false advertising and deceptive business practices.
In a suit filed in state Supreme Court in Albany, Mr. Cuomo said Dell, based in Round Rock, Tex., failed to provide customers with adequate technical support, even after those customers had paid extra to receive it. Mr. Cuomo also claims the company failed to live up to the financing terms that it advertised for its computers.
“We are confident that our practices will be found to be appropriate,” a spokesman for the company, Bob Kaufman, said in a statement sent via e-mail. “While even one dissatisfied customer is too many, the allegations in the AG’s filing are based upon a small fraction of Dell’s consumer transactions.”
At a press conference yesterday, Mr. Cuomo said his office has received an “unprecedented” number of complaints, about 700 in all, from Dell customers.
