The Dia Art Foundation has appointed Jeffrey Weiss as its new director, the New York Times reported yesterday. Mr. Weiss, 48, is currently curator and head of modern and contemporary art at the National Gallery of Art in Washington.

The 33-year-old Dia Art Foundation houses its permanent collection in a museum in Beacon, N.Y., and includes leading works from the 1960s and 1970s. Plans to open a new Manhattan site are under way.
